Research project: Implementing an ocean biogeochemistry model in the UK Earth System Model

Currently Active:
Yes

In this project a marine biogeochemical model will be implemented in support of the next generation of UK Earth System Models (UKESM), currently being built as a joint activity between the Met Office and NERC.

This project is to ensure that the marine biogeochemical model is fully integrated with the other component models needed to represent the Earth System so that the system functions effectively as a whole. We will also lead the scientific evaluation of this component model.

Aims

The work will involve leading on scientific publications in this area, as well as ensuring that any shortcomings in the biogeochemical model are rapidly addressed and rectified.

Key Contacts

Sybren Drijfhout (The post holder is a member of the ESM core group and interacts regularly with other members of the group (largely based at the Met Office), as well as with the wider UK community, to achieve project aims.
