G F Forsey, the University’s first Deputy Vice-Chancellor in 1952, made a bequest to Southampton to enhance the social and cultural life of the members of the University.
The funds resulting from this generous endowed donation are now awarded in the form of grants for the provision of cultural and social activities which are not possible to fund from general University income or other sources.
Grants are available to any student currently registered at the University. A grant cannot be used to support projects which are related to the academic or research activities of applicants. A limited amount of money is available each year and individual awards can be up to £1,000. Applications that ‘touch’ a number of lives across the university community are especially welcome.
Recent grants have supported a diverse range of projects including the ‘Strictly Southampton’ Ballroom and Latin dance competition, the Holocaust and Genocide Memorial Day cultural event, and a volunteer Games Maker participating in the London 2012 Paralympic Games.
