The University of Southampton provides car parking facilities for staff, students, visitors and contractors on academic sites and at Halls of Residence. However, demand for car parking permits considerably outstrips supply, particularly at Highfield. No one may park on site without displaying a valid permit unless they are visitors who can be booked into the Visitors’ Car Park at Highfield. Student parking at academic sites is normally limited to those with medical needs.
Permits are not required for motor cycles or scooters but they must not be parked in designated car parking spaces.
Full details of the terms and conditions for parking on University premises are listed on the University Calendar.
Each year, the University reviews car parking policy, regulations, parking fees and PCN. All car park and route marking, together with advisory and warning parking signage, is reviewed at least annually. Additional disabled bays are always provided as a matter of urgency. Signage, at the entrances to all access points to academic campuses and permanent car parks, indicates where drivers are entering a private car park for which permits or parking tickets are required.
Vehicles parked in breach of the regulations will attract Penalty Charge Notices (PCN). Appeals will be considered only where there are extenuating circumstances or facts are materially incorrect. Appeals must be in writing or by email to email@example.com with a copy of the PCN included. A reply will be sent to the appellant. It is regretted that no discussions will be entered into over the telephone. Early payment of a PCN will attract a £25 discount. Payment of PCNs should be made via the Online Store.
