What qualifications do I need?

Unless you are a mature student, you will need to satisfy the University’s general entrance requirements as well as those set by the Academic Unit you wish to enter.

What qualifications do I need?

Our entry requirements vary from course to course.

Each Academic Unit sets its own entrance requirements, and you will usually be required to attain required grades, which are listed on the course pages. If you are taking other qualifications (including international qualifications), admissions tutors will be happy to advise you on entry requirements for their courses.

In the case of GCSE and GCE requirements all syllabuses approved by the Qualifications and Curriculum Authority (QCA) are usually acceptable. This includes modular syllabuses where they exist and have been approved by QCA. The same policy applies where named subjects are referred to in subject course requirements.

Access to Southampton

Access to Southampton is the University's alternative entry scheme. It offers special consideration to applicants from educationally, financially or socially disadvantaged backgrounds.

We recognise that exam grades do not always reflect what a student is capable of achieving. Our scheme gives some students who have experienced difficulties or hardship an opportunity to realise their potential.

In 2009/10, more than 80 students across 20 disciplines gained a place at Southampton through the programme. Find out more about Access to Southampton.
