General Questions

  1. Do I need to book to attend one of your Open Days?

    Yes. Our Open Days are extremely popular; we welcome around 10,000 visitors each day. To ensure the best possible experience for you we need to cap our numbers at 10,000 per day.

  2. Do all of your subjects exhibit at your Open Day?

    You will be able to attend talks and drop-ins for all our subjects with the exception of:

    BA Fashion & Textile Design

    BA Fashion Marketing/Management

    BA Fine Art

    BA Games Design and Art

    BA Graphic Arts

    These subjects are based at our Winchester School of Art (WSA). WSA hold their own Open Days throughout the year. More details can be found on the Winchester School of Art Open Day page.

  3. Is there a separate Open Day for Medicine?

    No, Medicine is included in our University Open Days. Please note that due to the popularity of the Medicine talks, these are offered to prospective students only.

  4. Do I need to pre-book any talks or events?

    No, you just need to register to attend the Open Days itself and then all talks and events on the day will be ‘first come first served’. Please note that some talks may be limited to one guest per prospective student and our Medicine Talks are for prospective students only.

  5. When will I receive my Open Day Guide?

    We do not mail out hard copies of our Open Day guide in advance but you will be emailed a PDF version of this guide approximately two weeks before your Open Day.You will receive a hard copy upon arrival in Southampton.

  6. Do I need to print out my Open Day Guide?

    No, you will be able to pick up a printed version on arrival in Southampton either at West Quay, the train stations or on one of our Campuses

  7. When and where will the shuttle buses run?

    Buses will run every 10 minutes from the West Quay multi storey car park to our Highfield, Avenue and National Oceanography Centre campuses from 8:00am – 6.00 pm. Shuttle buses will also run between campuses including Wessex Lane Halls of Residence between 8:00am – 6:00pm. Find out more on our Open Day travel page.

  8. Where can I stay overnight?

    There are plenty of hotels in the City. Please visit Southampton Tourist Information for details. Unfortunately we are unable to offer accommodation in our Halls of Residence.

  9. I have a subject specific question I would like to ask before I attend your Open Day, who do I contact?

    Please contact your specific subject department directly. Contact details and course specific information can be found on our Undergraduate course page.

Booking Questions

  1. What should I do if I have a problem with the Open Day booking system?

    If you have a problem with the booking system please telephone us on +44 (0)23 8059 5900 or email visit@southampton.ac.uk and we will do our best to help you. The hotline is staffed from 08:30-16:30, Monday to Friday.

  2. Why haven’t I received an email confirming my booking?

    The confirmation may have been prohibited by your computer’s security setting, or diverted by your spam/junk mail filter; please check your junk mail folder. Alternatively, there may be an error in the email address you have entered in your personal details.

    If you think you have entered an incorrect email address or would like your confirmation resent, please telephone us on +44 (0)23 8059 5900 or email visit@southampton.ac.uk and we will do our best to help you. The hotline is staffed from 08:30-16:30, Monday to Friday.

  3. What should I do to change the date of the Open Day I will attend?

    You will need to log back into your account either through the link provided in your confirmation email or through the booking page and click the ‘login’ link at the top of the page.

    If logging in through your confirmation email, you will automatically be logged in.

    Click on My Events/Interviews and this will display a page of your booked events.

    Find the event you are booked to attend, click ‘Decline’ and then ‘OK’ to confirm your cancellation. This will display a page that states you have successfully declined the event.

    Then click on ‘Search’ in the top right hand corner of the page, enter ‘open day’ into the event/interview name search box and click the search tab at the bottom left of the page.

    This will then display the Open Days that are still available for booking and you can select the new date you would like to attend and click ‘Register’.

    Complete the registration form and click ‘Register’ at the bottom of the page.

    Your registration will then show as successfully processed and you can ‘Logout’ in the top right hand corner.

    You will receive a new confirmation within 30 minutes. Please remember to check junk/spam folders for this email in case it does not deliver to your main inbox.

  4. What should I do if I can no longer attend?

    You will need to log back into your account either through the link provided in your confirmation email or through the booking page and click the ‘login’ link at the top of the page.

    If logging in through your confirmation email, you will automatically be logged in.

    Click on My Events/Interviews and this will display a page of your booked events.

    Click ‘Decline’ and then ‘ok’ to confirm your cancellation. This will display a page that states you have successfully declined the event.

  5. Can I change the number of guests I am bringing with me?

    You will need to log back into your account either through the link provided in your confirmation email or through the booking page and click the ‘login’ link at the top of the page.

    If logging in through your confirmation email, you will automatically be logged in.

    Click on My Events/Interviews and this will display a page of your booked events.

    Click ‘Update’ and then update this section on your form. Click ‘Update’ at the bottom of the page to finalise.

    Your registration will then show as successfully processed and you can ‘Logout’ in the top right hand corner.

    Please note that you will not receive another confirmation e-mail but your details will be updated on our database.

  6. Can I amend my details from the ones I gave in my original registration form?

    You will need to log back into your account either through the link provided in your confirmation email or through the booking page and click the ‘login’ link at the top of the page.

    If logging in through your confirmation email, you will automatically be logged in.

    Click on My Events/Interviews and this will display a page of your booked event.

    Click ‘Update’ and then update the necessary details on your form.

    Click ‘Update’ at the bottom of the page to finalise. Your registration will then show as successfully processed and you can ‘Logout’ in the top right hand corner.

    Please note that you will not receive another confirmation e-mail but your details will be updated on our database.

  7. When will I receive my Open Day ticket?

    You will receive your ticket for the Open Day you have selected to attend about a week before the event. This ticket also covers any guests you are bringing with you.

    If you haven’t received yours before the Open day you are due to attend, please print off your confirmation email and pick up an Open Day Guide on arrival either at West Quay Shopping Centre if arriving by car or Southampton Central or Airport Parkway if arriving by train. This will give you access to our free shuttle bus service. We can then register you via your confirmation email when you arrive on campus.

  8. I am a teacher/careers adviser. How do I make a booking for a group of students?

    You can register yourself and your students on the Open Day Booking system. Simply select the ‘Teacher’ option from the open days web page and complete the form.

    Please note that the Open Day Guide will only be emailed to you. You will need to forward this on to your students attending the event.

    Students accompanying you do not need to register individually prior to attending.
