Open Days - Frequently Asked Questions
Q. Do I need to book to attend one of your Open Days?
A. Yes. Our Open Days are extremely popular; we welcome some 10,000 visitors each day. To ensure the best possible experience for you we need to cap our numbers at 10,000 per day.
Q. Do all of your subjects exhibit at your Open Day?
A. You will be able to attend talks and drop-ins for all our subjects with the exception of:
BA Fashion & Textile Design
BA Fashion Marketing/Management
BA Fine Art
BA Games Design and Art
BA Graphic Arts
These subjects are based at our Winchester School of Art (WSA). WSA hold their own Open Days throughout the year. More details can be found at www.southampton.ac.uk/wsa.
Q. Is there a separate Open Day for Medicine?
A. No, Medicine is included in our University Open Days. Please note that due to the popularity of the Medicine talks, these are offered to prospective students only.
Q. Do I need to pre-book any talks or events?
A. No, you just need to register to attend the Open Days itself and then all talks and events on the day will be ‘first come first served’. Please note that some talks may be limited to one guest per prospective student and our Medicine Talks are for prospective students only.
Q. Why am I having problems submitting my booking form?
A. A small number of visitors are experiencing problems when trying to submit their Open Day booking form online. If you are unable to submit your form online, please contact us on +44(0)23 8059 5900 and we will complete the form on your behalf. You will then receive an email confirmation of your place.
Q. Why haven’t I received an email confirming my booking?
A. The confirmation may have been prohibited by your computer’s security setting, or diverted by your spam/junk mail filter; please check your junk mail folder. Alternatively, there may be an error in the email address you have entered in your personal details. If you think you have entered an incorrect email address or would like to try another email address, please re-register. This will automatically update your booking and you should then receive your confirmation.

Q. When will I receive my Open Day ticket?
A. You will receive your ticket for the Open Day you have selected to attend during the week leading up to the event. This ticket also covers your guests.
If you haven’t received yours before the Open day you are due to attend, please print off your confirmation email and pick up an Open Day Guide on arrival either at West Quay Shopping Centre if arriving by car or Southampton Central or Airport Parkway if arriving by train. This will give you access to our free shuttle bus service. We can then register you via your confirmation email when you arrive on campus.
Q. I am a teacher/careers adviser. How do I make a booking for a group of students?
A. You can register yourself and your students on the Open Day Booking system. Simply select the ‘Teacher’ option from the drop down menu and enter your contact details. Further down the form enter the number of students you are bringing with you.
Please note that the Open Day Guide will only be emailed to you. You will need to forward this on to your students attending the event.
Students accompanying you do not need to register individually.
Q. What are the start and finish times of your Open Days?
A. 10:00am to 4:00pm.
Q. How do I reserve a disabled parking space?
A. You can book a disabled parking space through our Open Day Team on +44 (0)23 8059 5900 or by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org. Please give as much notice as possible; and at least 48 hours before the event.
Q. What should I do if I have a problem with the Open Day booking system?
A. If you have a problem with the booking system please telephone us on +44 (0)23 8059 5900 or email email@example.com and we will do our best to help you. The hotline is staffed from 08:30-16:30, Monday to Friday.
Q. What should I do to change the date of the Open Day I will attend?
A. Please re-register on the booking system and select the new date you wish to attend. This will automatically update your booking and you should then receive a new confirmation.
Q. What should I do if I can no longer attend?
A. To cancel your place, please email firstname.lastname@example.org stating your name, postcode and the email address that you registered with. We will then remove your details from our database.
Q. Can I change the number of guests I am bringing with me?
A. Please re-register on the booking system with all your details including how many guests you want to bring with you. This will automatically update your booking and you should then receive a new confirmation.
Q. I’m travelling to Southampton the night before the event, can you recommend any hotels?
A. There are plenty of hotels in the City. Please visit Southampton Tourist Information for details: www.visit-southampton.co.uk
Q. I’m travelling to Southampton the night before the event, can I stay in Halls of Residence?
A. Unfortunately we are unable to offer accommodation in our Halls of Residence.
Q. When will I receive my Open Day Guide?
A. We do not mail out hard copies of our Open Day guide in advance but you will be emailed a PDF version of this guide approximately two weeks before your Open Day.
You will receive a hard copy on arrival in Southampton.
Q. Do I need to print out my Open Day Guide?
A. No, you will be able to pick up a printed version on arrival in Southampton either at West Quay, the Train Stations or on one of our Campuses.
Q. When and where will the shuttle buses run?
A. Buses will run every 10 minutes from the West Quay multi storey car park to our Highfield, Avenue and National Oceanography Centre campuses from 8:00am – 6.00 pm.
Shuttle buses will also run between campuses including Wessex Lane Halls of Residence between 8:00am – 6:00pm.
