Entry requirements

This information is for general guidance only; entry requirements vary for different courses. For more specific details, please visit the relevant course web page or contact the admissions office for your chosen subject area.

Foundation year entry requirements 

International Foundation Year (progressing to undergraduate degree in management, humanities, arts and social sciences) 433 for HKDSE Form 6, excluding liberal studies and chinese
Engineering Foundation Year (progressing to undergraduate courses in engineering, physics, computer science and geophysics) 544 for HKDSE Form 6, without extended maths module
Science Foundation Year (progressing to undergraduate courses in biology, chemistry and other science-related courses)

544 for HKDSE Form 6

Please note that this course does not progress to an undergraduate degree in medicine. 

Undergraduate entry requirements

To be considered for a place on one of our undergraduate (bachelors) degrees, you will need:

HKDSE: 554/5*55 depending on subjects, including 5 in maths (with extended modules) and/or physics for engineering related degree or 5 in maths and a science subject for science related programmes
International Baccalaureate (IB): Between 28 and 38 points
Associate degrees will be considered for first or second year entry to the University's bachelors degree programmes 

Postgraduate entry requirements

Masters programmes Bachelors degree with a GPA of 2.8 out of 4.0 (equivalent to a UK 2.1) 
PhD programmes Good grades in bachelors and masters degrees awarded by a recognised university, and a strong research proposal

English language entry requirements

You will need to be able to demonstrate the required level of English language proficiency. We accept HKDSE Grade 4 as equivalent to IELTS 6.5. Find out more about our English language requirements and support.

The Hong Kong student community

We are pleased to welcome students from Hong Kong to the University each year. In 2016/17 we have 174 students from Hong Kong studying with us.

Student-run clubs and societies

Getting involved in clubs and societies is a great way to meet other students from your country and from around the world. There are many societies run by the University's Students' Union (SUSU) for different interests, religions, sports and academic groups.
