Helen is a physicist and oceanographer based in the Institute for Sound and Vibration Research at Southampton. She is currently co-presenting the BBC2 series 'Orbit: Earth’s Extraordinary Journey', scheduled for broadcast the week after Women’s Day.
Helen has a first class degree in Natural Sciences (Physics) and a PhD in experimental explosives physics, both from Cambridge University. A continuing fascination with the world of very fast small-scale phenomena led her from explosives to the study of ocean bubble formation which she continues to explore at Southampton.
Helen will talk about women in science, including women scientists in the media. She will also talk about her outreach activities promoting science to the general public.
