WSA academics publish "Across and Beyond: A transmediale Reader on Post-digital Practices, Concepts and Institutions"

Published: 12 January 2017

Professors Ryan Bishop, Professor of Global Arts and Politics and Co-Director of the Winchester Centre for Global Futures in Art Design & Media, and Jussi Parikka, Professor in Technological Culture & Aesthetics, Winchester School of Art, have published Across and Beyond: A transmediale Reader on Post-digital Practices, Concepts and Institutions with Sternberg Press (Berlin). The volume is co-edited with Kristoffer Gansing, artistic director of transmediale, the new media arts festival based in Berlin. The festival is celebrating its 30th anniversary in February and the volume helps to mark the occasion. WSA has been a partner of the festival since 2012 and works closely with transmediale to formulate the academic conference integral to it.

There will be an official launch for the book at this year's festival, 2-5 February 2017. A panel for the new volume was held at the Institute of Contemporary Art (ICA) in London with a paying audience of two hundred attending. The volume features new chapters by 15 leading theorists (also including new WSA associate professor Alessandro Ludovico), and 10 original contributions from artists and designers. The introduction is available free online.
