Dedicated to the reduction of aircraft noise
X-Noise is a European collaborative network of industrial, SMEs, university and research organizations working in the field of aeroacoustics applied to aircraft noise research. The network was formed originally in 1998, and is led by SNECMA.
More recently, in order to improve the integration of European research activities in aircraft noise, a number of national and regional networks have been formed across Europe under the auspices of X-Noise. The United Kingdom X-Noise Network in Aeroacoustics was established in 2006.
The Institute of Sound and Vibration Research (ISVR) at the University of Southampton is the X-Noise National Focal Point for the United Kingdom, and acts as the coordinator of the UK X-Noise Network in Aeroacoustics. The key objectives of this and similar networks formed across Europe is the coordination of activities at a national level connected to research in aircraft noise.
