GY210 Ingleton Field Course: field exercises The principal aim of this field course is to acquire the basic skills of field mapping. The geological map is to a large extent the basis of all geological knowledge. Geological maps are made at a variety of scales for a variety of purposes. Mapping is a skill that you will progressively acquire through your time as a student, which may culminate in the Independent Mapping Project at the beginning of Year 3. The first two days of the Ingleton field course will be spent on one-day field excursions (to Troller's Gill and the Sedgwick Geology Trail), in order to refresh your memory regarding and also introduce some new mapping techniques. We will then spend the remainder of the trip completing a geological map of the area around the Waterfalls Walk in Ingleton, during which two quarry visits will be scheduled (one to a working roadstone quarry).
