GY210 Ingleton Field Course: field equipment

The successful completion of this trip depends on you being adequately equipped. To complete a successful mapping course the following equipment is essential.  Students not possessing a compass clinometer or a hard hat will be barred from the trip.

Safety helmet,
Safety goggles,
Small first-aid kit,
Waterproof clothing and stout footwear,
Insect repellent cream (ESSENTIAL IF PRONE TO BITES, BELIEVE IT!),
Sun-protection cream (IT DOESN'T RAIN ALL THE TIME!),
Compass clinometer,
Waterproof notebook,
Waterproof stiff-backed map case or board (A4) -

(Please note that Ingleton has >100cm rainfall per year, most - BUT NOT ALL - of which falls during our trip. if you do not have proper waterproof equipment, your work is likely to disintegrate if it gets wet).
Pencils (2H), and coloured pencils,
Eraser,
Pencil sharpener,
Hand-lens,
Penknife,
Protractor,
Ruler,
Small leakproof bottle containing dilute hydrochloric acid,
Tape measure,
Geological hammer.

Two mapping pens - 0.25mm Staedler or equivalent - one with black ink and the other with green ink. These cost approximately £11 each.
OR
Alternatively, a fine fibre-based disposable waterproof pen may be used - e.g. Edding 1800 Profipen 0.1 Green/Black, widely available, e.g. from the Art Shop in East Street, cost approximately £3 each.
