GY210 Ingleton: itinerary 17th-28th June 2000 For certain purposes the party will be divided into two groups. Staff will be available for consultation in the field each day, and from 7.00-9.00pm at the Bridge Hotel most evenings. Sat. June 17th. Travel to Ingleton. All students are to register with Staff, and complete the safety questionnaire, at the Bridge Hotel (see map) commencing at 7.00pm. At 7.30pm there will be aan introductory lecture on mapping techniques at the Bridge Hotel. Attendance at this lecture is essential prior to beginning the mapping exercises. Sun. June 18th. Field Excursions: All students to assemble in the car park of the Bridge Hotel 9.00am. Students will be divided into two groups and will conduct either the mapping exercise on aerial photographs in Troller's Gill, or the mapping exercise along the Sedgwick Trail, near Sedbergh. You should be prepared for a full field day away from creature comforts such as shops, shelter, etc., please bring hard hats and a packed lunch - remember you will need to shop for Sun. & Mon. lunches, etc., on Saturday! Mon. June 19th. Field Excursions. Same instructions apply as for Sunday: car park of the Bridge Hotel 9.00am. Groups complete the 1-day excursion exercises by going either to Troller's Gill or the Sedgwick Trail, depending on their destination on the previous day. Tue. June 20th. All students to meet at 9.00am in the Waterfalls Walk car park (see local map). Here you will be subdivided into smaller groups, and guided by a staff member or demonstrator, you will be taken on an introductory tour of the Ingleton mapping area. Wed. June 21st. Ingleton: mapping in pairs. Thur. June 22nd. Ingleton: mapping in pairs. You must attend a ‘mapping clinic' in the Bridge Hotel between 7.00 and 9.00pm on the evening of Thursday June 22nd. Your field slips will be examined by a member of staff, you will be able to ask for advice, and a progress mark will be given out of 10, which will count towards the final mark. The map will be returned to you on the morning of Friday June 23rd in the Waterfall Walks car park at 9.00am. Fri/Sat. June 23-24th. Ingleton: mapping in pairs. Sun. June 25th. Ingleton: mapping in pairs/Meal Bank Quarry Visit. First group of students meet at the entrance to Meal Bank Quarry (GR695735) at 9.30am to complete the map of this area and to discuss various interesting features observed within the quarry. Students in second group meet at Meal Bank Quarry at 2.00pm. (This exercise should not last more than 1.5 hours). It is absolutely essential that you are properly equipped for this visit. You must wear a hard hat at all times. Mon June 26th. Ingleton: mapping in pairs/ARC Quarry visit. Students in first group meet at Car park of Ingleton ARC Roadstone Quarry (GR708740) for 9.30 am. Students in second group meet at Ingleton ARC Roadstone quarry for 2.00pm. The visits to the quarry will not last longer than 2 hours. It is absolutely essential that you are properly equipped for this visit. You must wear a hard hat at all times. Tue June 27th. Final Day of mapping. Hand in map, notebook and manual at the Bridge Inn between 4.00 & 6.00pm and collect cheque. Following this, you are free to depart if you wish. Wed June 28th. Bus returns to Southampton.
