Ingleton: an introduction - with links to village facilities

Ingleton is a North Yorkshire village in the Yorkshire Dales National Park, situated in an area of outstanding natural beauty.  The surrounding area largely consists of Carboniferous Limestone (often karstic) scenery, including the Three Peaks of Whernside, Ingleborough and Pen-y-Gent, and many cavern systems, including White Scar Caves (visible from the mapping area).

There are an adequate number of shops: one supermarket, butchers, bakers, greengrocers, newsagents, sweet shops, P.O., chippy, pizza place, etc., pubs and cafes.  However, as a small village, some facilities are limited (see Yorkshirenet links for details).  In particular, banking facilities are restricted to one small branch of Barclays which not only has irregular opening times, but also lacks a cash machine.  You should thus plan to arrive on the field course with adequate financial resources to last the duration of the course.  Alternative arrangements can be found, for instance, the landlord of the Bridge Inn will usually cash cheques (accompanied by a charge card) for a small fee, and emergency trips to the nearest cash machine in a neighbouring village about 5 miles away if absolutely necessary!
