FingArtPrint was a European project to devise a system to make "fingerprints" of works of art so that they can identified.

A combination of 3D surface scanning and multispectral imaging combines to make a unique data record of the object which can be compared to check its authenticity. In Southampton we are working on the software to compare FingArtPrints and help the user acquire the data.

The detail on the right is from a small area of the painting on the left. This is the type of area which may be used to characterise the painting.
