PHYS6011 - Particle Physics

Particle Physics is the current frontier of the reductionist approach to understanding matter and its interactions. This course will teach you about our current understanding of these most basic building blocks of nature and about the experiments currently underway to learn more.

Important Dates and Times for 2012/13:

  • Lecture 1: Mondays, 10:00-11:00, 07/3019
  • Lecture 2: Fridays, 10:00-11:00, 07/3019
  • Lecture 3: Fridays, 11:00-12:00, 16/2025

Relativistic Quantum Mechanics

Quantum Electrodynamics (QED)

Quantum Chromodynamics (QCD)

Weak Force

Beyond the Standard Model

Particle Colliders:

  • An introduction to the experimental side of the field by Dr Fergus Wilson (RAL) will be given on the following dates: Monday 29th April (1 slot), Friday 3rd May (2 slots) and Friday 10th May (2 slots). The material for this part of the module con be found here (do recall that all this examinable). [New!]

Here are some useful notes (pdf) on this part of the module.
