Welcome to my Web site!Shoufeng Yang is a senior lecturer in the School of Engineering Sciences at the University of Southampton. He has a first degree in Mechanical Engineering (1994) and Ph.D in Materials Science (1999) both from Tsinghua University, Beijing, which is the top university in China. He has worked as a post-doctoral research fellow at Nanyang Technological University, Singapore (1999-2000) working with Prof. LEONG Kah Fai and Prof. CHUA Chee Kai and Queen Mary, University of London (2000-2003, QMUL) working with Prof. Julian R.G. Evans. He was then appointed as EPSRC platform grant research fellow (2003-2005), RCUK academic fellow (2005-2010), lecturer (2008-2009), and senior lecturer (2009-2010), both at QMUL. His main research interests is the second generation solid freeform fabrication (SFF), in which both the materials composition and the shape of objects are computer controlled throughout three dimensional space. He has created powder deposition devices that allow three dimensional functional gradients to be built by selective laser melting or sintered in vacuum furnace. This project was selected for prestigious Royal Society Summer Science Exhibition 2007 (royalsociety.org/From-music-to-sand-painting/). His current research topics include artificial neural networks (ANNs), metamaterials, inkjet printing and dry powder printing, combinatorial materials research and tissue engineering scaffold fabrication. He is active in novel solid freeform fabrication methods and new materials discovery for 10 years and is the author or co-author of over 80 papers in scientific journals and conference proceedings. He was the co-organizer of UK-China Particle Technology Forum III, co-organizer and session chair of 16th Joint Annual Conference of The Chinese Society of Chemical Science and Technology, Co-organizer of The 12th CMA-UK Conference on Materials Science and Engineering, invited speaker and session chair of International Conference on Advances in Functional Materials, and Conference Chair in Young Scientist Symposium on Frontier Advances in Process Engineering. He is a member of the Editorial Board in Journal of Crystallization Physics and Chemistry.
