Our charitable status

The University of Southampton is an exempt charity under the terms of the Charities Act 2011. In accordance with the Act, the Office for Students (OfS) monitors our compliance with charity law. The following information about our charitable status is provided to comply with OfS requirements.

The University of Southampton is an exempt charity and a chartered corporation, established by Royal Charter in 1952.

Constitutional documents

Our constitution for 2009/10 is set out in the University's Charter, Statutes and Ordinances. The current version of the University's constitution, in force in 2015/16 incorporates changes made in the past year.
