About us

Public transport and cycling

Our Unilink bus system and cycle scheme help you to get around the city easily, safely and cheaply.

University bus links that anyone can use

The Unilink interchange at Highfield connects you to the city centre, all our campuses and halls of residences
Unilink bus interchange

We run frequent Unilink buses between the university campuses, the city centre, the student area of Portswood, the General Hospital, and Southampton airport.

Any one-way journey of any length costs just £2, and a dayrider ticket is £3.50. Multi-journey tickets are also available for regular users. These smartcard passes also allow you to use any Bluestar bus.
Register for a smartcard online, or pop into our travel office on Highfield campus.
Visit the Unilink bus website to find out more.

University halls fees include Unilink bus pass (excluding Erasmus Park and Riverside Way). For more information visit the Fees page.

Cycling in Southampton supported by uni-cycle

We collect abandoned and broken bikes to repair and sell on
uni-cycle collection

We want to help to make it as easy as possible for you to use your bike to get around. That’s why we put on termly bike sales, have a bi-monthly bike doctor clinic on-campus, and offer discounted safety equipment all year round.

Refurbished and donated bikes for sale

We run a bike sale several times during the year. Our refurbished and donated bikes are on sale for between £30 and £50 so keep an eye on our Twitter feed, or contact the Unilink office to find out when our next bike sale is.

Subsidised bike lights, bike locks and high-visibility clothing

We sell everything that you need to stay safe and be seen on your bike at great prices.

If you need anything for your bike then head to the Unilink office and we’ll get you kitted out.
Don’t forget that it is a legal requirement to have lights on your bike.
The Bike Doctor
The bike doctor visits campus twice a month, offering free safety checks and quick repairs.

About the uni-cycle project

This project aims to promote safe cycling in Southampton, and to reduce the number of bikes abandoned on campus.
Our transport team and student volunteers look out for bikes which have been abandoned, get them repaired by a qualified bike engineer and sell them on. Any bikes which can’t be repaired are used for parts and donated to charities so that nothing goes to waste.
Since 2011, the scheme has repaired over 100 bikes, raising more than £3000 to be reinvested in the project. These funds (along with the help and support from Hampshire Constabulary and Sustrans have allowed us to also provide subsidised bike locks, discounted lights and bicycle safety training as part of the project.

Donate a bike, or volunteer

We recover most of our bikes from university sites, but we also take donations from around the city. Our policy is to repair, reuse or recycle any bike – which is only possibly with the help of our volunteers and partner charities (Bike Dr @ RideRide and Bicycling Empowerment Network of South Africa).
If you have a bike to donate, or would like to volunteer please contact our Unilink office.
