General questions

Do I need to book to attend an Open Day?

Yes, you need to book. Our Open Days are extremely popular. We welcome around 10,000 visitors each day, but spaces are limited to make sure you have the best possible experience.

Booking is open for our Open Day on Saturday 8 July. If you'd like to attend our autumn Open Days on 9 September, 10 September or 14 October please register your interest and we'll email you when booking opens.

Are all subjects represented at your Open Days?

Yes, you will be able to attend talks and drop-ins for all of our subjects. Note that the following subjects are covered at Winchester School of Art (WSA), based at our Winchester Campus. If you are interested in these subjects, you need to book a WSA Open Day:

  • BA Fashion and Textile Design
  • BA Fashion Marketing/Management
  • BA Fine Art
  • BA Games Design and Art
  • BA Graphic Arts

Is there a separate Open Day for Medicine?

No, Medicine is included in our University Open Days. Please note that due to the popularity of the Medicine talks, these are for prospective students only, so you will not be able to bring your guests along to these talks.

Do I need to pre-book any talks or events?

No, you just need to register to attend the Open Day itself. All talks and events on the day are provided on a 'first come first served' basis. Please note that at some talks we may limit guests to one per prospective student. Our Medicine talks are for prospective students only, so you will not be able to bring your guests along to these talks.

When will I receive my Open Day programme?

The programme will be available on our website so you can plan your day before you arrive. We will also email you a PDF version of this programme approximately two weeks before your Open Day. You will be given a hard copy on your arrival in Southampton. We do not send out hard copies of our Open Day programme in advance.

Do I need to print out my Open Day programme?

No, you can pick up a printed version on arrival in Southampton either at West Quay, the train stations, or on one of our campuses.

When and where will the shuttle buses run?

Buses will run every 10 minutes from 08:00 to 18:00, leaving from the Wide Lange University Sports Ground, West Quay multi-storey car park and going to Highfield Campus, Southampton Boldrewood Innovation Campus, Avenue Campus, and National Oceanography Centre (Waterfront Campus). Shuttle buses will also go to our halls of residence (including Glen Eyre and Mayflower) between 08:00 and 18:00.

Where can I stay overnight?

We are unable to offer accommodation to our Open Day visitors.

A list of hotels and B&Bs in the area can found on the Discover Southampton website.

I have a subject specific question that I would like to ask before I attend your Open Day. Who should I contact?

Please contact your specific subject department directly. You can find contact details for each department on our Other ways to visit page.

Can I park on campus for the Open Day?

We regret that aside from pre-booked disabled parking, there is no visitor parking at any of our campuses.

There will be a limited number of parking spaces available to pre-book at Wide Line. You will be able to pre-book this when you book your Open Day place, if there are spaces remaining.

All other parking will be at the West Quay multi-storey car park in the city.

Shuttle buses will run from both parking locations to our campuses.

Disabled parking can be pre-booked - please email visit@southampton.ac.uk.

When do I need to check in?

You can register your attendance by checking in at the information fair on Highfield Campus, at one of the designated check in marquees at all campuses, or by using the MySouthampton app.

When can I check in using the MySouthampton app?

Just select the Check in tile on the home page of the app – all you need is your unique booking number which will be sent to you prior to your arrival with your ticket. This will be sent a few days before the event. Please note you can only check in via the Open Day app on the event day and not prior to arrival.

If you have not received your ticket a week before the Open Days then please check your spam filters.
