Travel, arrival and check-in

Our Open Days run from 10am until 4pm.

The best way to travel to our Open Day is by public transport. No matter how you decide to travel, once you book you will receive an email with specific instructions on how to get here. It is really important to read and follow these instructions, as there may be specific details tailored to you and your day.

Parking is available at Westquay multi-storey car park in the city centre.

A free Unilink shuttle service runs throughout the day from the train stations and Westquay, connecting you to our university campuses. National Express buses stop at Southampton Coach Station and Burgess Road, next to our Highfield Campus. Full details about travel will be sent to you once you book your Open Day place.

When you book your place you'll also be sent check-in information. You'll need it on your phone or printed for the day so our helpers can scan you in on the day.

For further general Open Day travel details, please see our 'Open Days' section on Getting to our campuses.

Tours and Accommodation

Join us on a campus tour with a current student to explore Highfield, our main campus. The tour takes approximately 30 minutes.

On a tour you will discover:

·         The Students' Union

·         A variety of catering facilities

·         Sports facilities, including the Jubilee Sports Centre

·         Learning and teaching facilities, including the Hartley Library

·         The Student Services Centre

Two of our largest halls of residences developments, Glen Eyre and Mayflower, will be open to give you the opportunity to take a self-guided tour.

Humanities subjects are based at Avenue Campus, a short walk from Highfield. You'll be able to tour this campus and it's facilities.

Some Engineering subjects are based at Boldrewood Innovation Campus. This campus is also a short walk from Highfield and tours will be available on Open Days.

Students interested in Ocean and Earth Science can take a free bus to the Waterfront Campus, home to the National Oceanography Centre. Here you'll be able to tour the facilities, including the aquarium, research vessels and marine science library, and speak to current students and staff.

General talks and drop-ins

We run a whole host of talks and lectures throughout the day.

These include talks on:

  • The Students' Union

All talks and drop-ins will be detailed in the Open Day programme, which you can preview in the Open Day App. A programme will also be emailed to you before the event and you'll be able to pick up a printed copy on the day.

Subject talks and events

These sessions provide you with the opportunity to gain greater insight about your subject of interest by talking to knowledgeable members of staff and current students.

Our Open Day activities take place across our University campuses, be sure to check the location and leave plenty of time to travel between campuses if necessary. Please note: Venues are on Highfield Campus unless otherwise stated.

Many of our subject events have limited space, so we may limit admitting one family member/friend per prospective student. We will of course look to accommodate everyone the best we can.
