The University of Southampton
Archaeology for the Creative Industries

Who we are

ACI is situated within Department of Archaeology at the University of Southampton. As a result, we can draw upon over fifty years of research and teaching at the forefront of Archaeology, globally and within the UK. Our staff provide expertise across the discipline, with specific research centres in the fields of Maritime Archaeology, BioArchaeology and OsteoArchaeology, Human Origins Research, and Prehistory.

We place theoretical reflection at the heart of everything we do and are committed to the understanding of archaeology as a practice in its social, cultural and political context. We focus on the integration of empirical and scientific data on the one hand, and a range of interpretive issues and fundamental social and cultural questions on the other.

Archaeology is located within the Faculty of Arts and Humanities, meaning that we are in day-to-day collaboration with colleagues in History, Modern Languages, English, Film, Music, Philosophy and the Winchester School of Art. In addition, we draw upon significant interdisciplinary links across the University of Southampton (including the National Oceanography Centre; Engineering; Electronics and Computer Science; Winchester School of Art; Natural and Environmental Sciences),
