I am a Senior Teaching Fellow in the Academic Centre for International Students, part of the Faculty of Humanities at the University of Southampton.

I am Deputy Director of the Pre-sessional programmes, language and academic skills courses taken by large numbers of international students every summer.

Before coming to the University of Southampton, I taught English in a number of locations, including France, Indonesia and the UK. I am a qualified secondary school teacher (PGCE in TESOL) and have an Advanced Diploma (OU) in Special Educational Needs. Learning languages (French, Indonesian, Spanish, German, Urdu to varying levels and in a variety of contexts) has contributed to my understanding of language acquisition and of possible difficulties that speakers of different languages may face when learning English.

Research interests

My research interests link closely to my teaching and I am currently investigating the theory and practice of tailoring EAP provision to subject specific groups to maximise student progress and satisfaction.

I deliver English for Academic Purposes courses to both undergraduate and postgraduate students in a variety of subject areas, in particular Engineering and Health Sciences.
