Dr Graham T Roberts is Visiting Academic within Engineering and Physical Sciences at the University of Southampton.

Graham obtained a BSc (Eng) in Aeronautics & Astronautics from the University of Southampton. Before being appointed initially as lecturer at Southampton in 1985, he had been Principle Engineer at Negretti Aviation, working on gas turbine blade measurement using optical pyrometry. Now a Senior Lecturer, he was appointed as Head of Department of Aeronautics & Astronautics in 1998 and served for three years as Deputy Head (Education) of the School of Engineering Sciences when the Department became part of the School in 1999. He was also Director of Programmes in Aeronautics & Astronautics from 2010 – 2014. Graham retired in 2016.

Research interests

  • fluid mechanics and heat transfer
  • hypersonic aerodynamics (especially aerodynamic heating effects)
  • spacecraft electric and rocket propulsion
  • measurement of the space environment (especially atomic oxygen)
  • ground-effect aerodynamics
