Two prominent members of the UK Space Agency visited the University of Southampton recently.

Chief Executive Dr David Parker and Professor Richard Crowther, Chief Engineer, who both have PhDs in Aeronautics and Astronautics from the University, met with astronautics staff and learnt more about astronautics research being undertaken at Southampton University.

Dr Parker also gave a seminar on ‘UK space policy and capabilities in 2013’ and spoke about the UK’s approach to space, its achievements and the future of the space industry. During his talk, Dr Parker demonstrated how space affects our everyday lives from TV broadcasting, weather forecasting and voice and data communications; the latest investments and technologies; and the Agency’s collaborations with partners across Europe.

Dr Adrian Tatnall, Acting Head of the Astronautics group, said: “It was a great privilege to have two such distinguished alumni visit the University. The UK space sector is currently thriving and it was of great interest to us to hear the plans of the UK Space Agency.”
