Two undergraduates from Engineering and the Environment are finalists for this year’s Science, Engineering and Technology student of the year awards (SET Awards) which will be presented on 26 September in London before an audience of leading figures from industry, government and academia.

Niccolo Zapponi from Aeronautics and Astronautics and Anne Pascale McIlwaine from Ship Science will be among the University of Southampton's five representatives at the event.

Niccolo worked on the University's ASTRA high altitude research balloon for his individual project, while Anne Pascale studied repair methodologies for composite materials for hers. They are among just 42 students from universities across the UK and Ireland to be in the running for the awards.

"It is an honour for them and the University to be chosen as a finalist for the SET Awards," explains Dr Graham Roberts, Director of Programmes for Aeronautics and Astronautics "We wish both Niccolo and Anne the very best of luck on the night."
