Dr Lutz Lesshafft , LadHyX, Paris. The Hydrodynamics Laboratory (LadHyX) was established in 1990 in order to foster the growth of fundamental studies in fluid mechanics. LadHyX is jointly supported by Ecole Polytechnique and the National Centre for Scientific Research (CNRS). Most of the research projects in LadHyX are of a fundamental nature. However the flows of interest are frequently encountered in natural phenomena and in industrial applications. The LadHyX group's approach to research is based on cultivating and maintaining close links between experimental observations and theoretical developments, between classical hydrodynamics and nonlinear physics and between fundamental and more applied investigations.
