Human Factors engineering is focussed on improving the safety, efficiency and well-being of people using technological systems. We have an award winning background in investigating human factor issues in the aviation industry, with particular expertise in the design of flight decks and air traffic management operations.

Research in Human Factors offers insights into the way people work, through the understanding of the interactions between humans, technology, tools, activities, products and their constraints.

Our researchers have access to a flight simulator, comprising a two-seater cockpit with five multifunction displays. The simulator has the capablity to simutlate both fixed and rotary wing aircraft and enables our researchers to test cockpit concepts with pilots in a wide range of realistic flight scenarios, with detailed performance and behavior monitoring.
