Research project: Kington Camp project
Kington Camp is a significant and largely unknown Second World War heritage site situated 2.5 miles West of Kington, Herefordshire.
Project Overview
It was first used by the British Army to re-group after Dunkirk and later became one of the largest US army hospitals in Britain, receiving thousands of American wounded from the European campaigns. In the immediate post-war years it was home to over 1,000 members of the Polish Resettlement Corp. Local people played a significant role in managing the camp and providing support and assistance to the wounded.
Members of the Southampton Archaeology staff are assisting in the Kington Camp project by providing technical assistance and organising a field survey on site.
