Dr Marco Trentini is International Associate based in Dept of Education, University of Bologna, Italy within Gerontology at the University of Southampton.

Ageing is a relatively new research topic for me. I am currently investigating the labour market participation of older workers and the work–retirement transition in the UK and Italy.

I am an international visitor and an associate of the Centre for Research on Ageing. After obtaining my DPhil Sociology and Social Research at the University of Trento, I was a postdoctoral fellow at the Department of Social Sciences, University of Turin (1995–1997), and the Institute of Labour Studies, University of Milan (1997–2000). Since 2000, I have been a lecturer in the Department of Education, University of Bologna (Italy).

Research interests

Ageing is a relatively new research topic for me. I am currently investigating the labour market participation of older workers and the work-retirement transition in the UK and Italy. The focus of my research is on:

  • the comparative analysis of labour markets and pensions policies in the UK and Italy
  • the retirement decisions of individuals
  • the vulnerability of older workers with reference to their employability

Work in progress
