We are delighted that our MSc Gerontology Alumnus Retselisitsoe Tsuinyane, who is Director Elderly Care Services in the Ministry Of Social Development in Lesotho, has launched a new ‘Recreation and Fitness’ programme for older people, which can make a difference in terms of older people’s wellbeing.

Ground-breaking research on residential mobilities over the life course

Although there is an expanding body of literature on residential mobility across sections of the life course, a full life course perspective has remained lacking. A recent research project in the CPC, involving Prof. Jane Falkingham, Dr Joanna Sage, Dr Juliet Stone and Dr Athina Vlachantoni shed new light into the ways in which residential mobility is associated with life course events in terms of individuals’ employment, partnership and fertility, and how these are influenced by socio-historical context.


Sustainable Development Goals put ageing and gender back on agenda

Asghar Zaidi, professor of International Social Policy at the University of Southampton, will attend a United Nations event in New York (27 – 29 June) to help shape the way information about different groupings of people (young, old, men, women, those with disabilities etc) is used to help make the new global Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs – est. 2015) most effective.


20 Commonwealth scholarships for MSc distance learning courses in Ageing

The Centre for Research on Ageing at the University of Southampton, in collaboration with the Commonwealth Scholarships Commission, is offering 15 scholarships for students from Commonwealth countries to study on the MSc Gerontology (Distance Learning) programme and 5 scholarships for students to study on the MSc Global Ageing and Policy (Distance Learning) programme in 2016-17.
