Assessment and Learning in Practice SettingsPractice placements

The professional body for Physiotherapists (Chartered Society of Physiotherapists, CSP) require learners to spend a minimum of 1,000 hours in ‘successful’ practice placement.

Practice placements enable learners to contextualise and apply theoretical principles and experience the process of practice validating theory. Learners develop professional and clinical skills, clinical reasoning and judgment skills and have the opportunity to reflect on ‘real life’ practice.

The required hours are completed in a variety of practice areas, as determined by the University, relevant Local Education and Training Boards (LETB), health and social care services, specific trusts, services and/or departments, private and voluntary sectors.

Students on the Physiotherapy programmes are required to complete practice experiences in the following areas:

The learners’ experience is formally assessed by a designated and briefed practitioner (placement educator). The subsequent practice based placement (practice placement) assessment grade contributes to the academic record and qualifying performance of the learner.
The left hand menu will offer further information on practice placement dates, learning outcomes and taught skills.
