Scholar-artists Dr. Jamie Allen and Moritz Greiner-Petter's How to Build a Lie-lecture is now available online. The piece was commissioned for the AMT opening event Future Past Tense that took place in October 2016.

The Institute of Experimental Design and Media Cultures (Basel) researchers continued into the realities and imaginaries media objects and technologies associated with lie detection and in this lecture-performance which can be seen here:  https://vimeo.com/233668297.

Jamie Allen explains the project:

“How to Build a Lie was a lecture performed while hooked up to an on-body lie detector at the AMT offices. It is a recounting of the strange history of lie detection, truth verification and Wonder Woman. The project is part of a broader look at Apocryphal Technologies, or technologies that we all think work, but don’t. The arc of this research includes a physical recreation of a voice stress analysis machine that analyses the self-read audiobook versions of presidential autobiographies, The Lie Machine (2014); a residency with the Media Archeology Lab in Denver, Colorado; a thematic exhibition at Dateline gallery; a publication with Counterpath Press upon which this lecture/video is based.”

AMT is continuing the collaboration with the Institute of Experimental Design and Media Cultures and their Critical Media Lab with new work and a seminar that relates to the theme of apocryphal technologies.
