Autumn Visiting Scholars
AMT-research group is hosting two new visiting scholars the Autumn semester. We are happy to welcome Dr Christine Schranz and Marcio Telles whose work relates to our interests in media theory, design practices and contemporary cultures of media and memory.
Christine Schranz (left) is a senior researcher and lecturer at the Academy of Art and Design in Basel Switzerland. At the Institute of Experimental Design and Media Cultures https://www.ixdm.ch she is currently conducting a project on “Augmented Space“ (funded by the Swiss National Science Foundation). The project concerns the way in which the visibility and legibility of a place is changed and reconfigured by the use of interactive and locative media technologies. At Winchester School of Art, she is engaging in a research project “the Digital Memory of Palmyra. In Christine’s words:
“The project is a contribution to the formation of a digital memory and that bottom-up strategies may well be equivalent to the institutionalised top-down strategies. The result is the creation of an alternative map of the UNESCO world sight which was blown up by ISIS.”
Marcio Telles (right) is a Brazilian researcher, affiliated to the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul (UFRGS) and the research groups GPESC (on critical semiotics) and GPEP (Ecology of Practices).
He is developing the concept of "Geocommunicology", trying to understand how space and place impacts the development of Communication and Media theories. This includes looking into media archaeology as an epistemological device that is able to grasp the materiality of theoretical texts and the "image of thought" they produce.
