The Cultural Politics Reader published in Chinese
The Cultural Politics Reader, edited by John Armitage, AMT co-director Ryan Bishop and Doug Kellner (UCLA), has just appeared in Chinese, published by Commercial Press, the leading academic publishing house in China.
The text was translated over several years by You Jianrong, a lecturer in the School of Foreign Languages of Shaanxi Normal University, Xi'an, China who worked closely with the editors during the translation process. The reader is a sample of pivotal articles published in the journal Cultural Politics (Duke UP), edited by Armitage, Bishop and Kellner for 15 years. Some of the pieces are by world-leading scholars in humanities, arts and social sciences, including Vikki Bell, Jodi Dean, Simon During, George Marcus, Andrew Ross, Peter Sloterdijk and Bernard Stiegler. The reader includes an introduction by the three editors examining the state of the field of cultural politics and its relevance for the current Chinese academic landscape. The journal has also inaugurated a book series with Duke, entitled “A Cultural Politics Book,” with the volume Finite Media: Environmental Implications of Digital Technologies by Sean Cubitt. Exploring what is political in the cultural and what is cultural in the political, the reader, the journal and the book series is explicitly interdisciplinary, critical and international in scope. For further information on any of these, please check the Duke University website or contact Professor John Armitage ( j.armitage@soton.ac.uk ) or Professor Ryan Bishop ( r.bishop@soton.ac.uk ) at WSA.
