Mr Timothy James Heffernon is a Postgraduate research student with the Airbus Noise Technology Centre within Engineering and Physical Sciences at the University of Southampton.

Graduated with a BSc in Mathematics from the University of Sussex and then an MSc in Applied Mathematics from Imperial College London, before starting as a PhD student with the Airbus Noise Technology Centre, Aerodynamics and Flight Mechanics group in October 2012.

Research interests

Currently working on a project with the ANTC entitled "Aircraft Noise Installation Effects".  The aim of this project is to develop numerical modelling methodologies to investigate the directivity of the noise created by landing gear installed under a lifting wing.  In particular the effect of flow circulation around the wing, and the effect of deployment of flaps and slats (which alter the reflective shape of the underside of the wing) will be examined.
