Dr Georgia Andreou is a Research Fellow in Archaeology at the University of Southampton.
I am a landscape archaeologist with interest in the coastal environment. After completing my studies at the Universities of Cyprus and Edinburgh, I have held postdoctoral positions at Cornell University (Classics) and at Brown University (Joukowsky Institute for Archaeology and the Ancient World).
Currently part of the MarEA project, I am using my expertise on GIS, satellite imagery analysis and digital shoreline analysis to record and assess endangered maritime sites in the Gulf.
In addition, I pursue my research on the influence of traditional (colonial) perceptions of the ancient environment on archaeological practices and narrative production in the Mediterranean. I am currently co-directing the Kalavasos and Maroni Built Environment project, an international, interdisciplinary project with excavations on two Late Bronze Age sites with evidence for engagement with the international trade networks of the Eastern Mediterranean. In 2014-2016, I have co-directed the Cyprus Ancient Shoreline Project (funded by the Honor Frost Foundation), an interdisciplinary project that aimed to understand, quantify and develop response strategies for monitoring the impact of coastal erosion on archaeological sites.
Outside of research, I enjoy teaching and have developed syllabi on Geographic Information Systems, the Archaeology of Rural Landscapes, Politics of Heritage and Commemoration, Classical and Middle Eastern Archaeology.
