Archaeology shines in the RAE

Published: 19 December 2009

Archaeology has yet again demonstrated its research excellence.

Following on from considerable recent success in grant funding and development of international research collaborations, the discipline has scored a GPA of 2.8 in the RAE. Southampton Archaeology achieved a national ranking of 5th, one of thirteen disciplines in the University of Southampton to gain an overall top-ten place. This grading is a tremendous achievement, made all the more impressive by the comparative youth of the discipline's staff. The RAE result bodes extremely well for the coming years and for all aspects of the discipline's work: the better our research, the better our research-led teaching, learning and our student's experience. More information about our innovative research is available on archaeology's research pages.
