As part of the Festival of British Archaeology, Archaeology here at Southampton will be hosting a day of hands-on activities and demonstrations.


We are planning lots for everyone to do, take part in and /or watch, including:

  • Log boat live!  (making a log boat using ancient technologies)
  • Medieval shipwrighting using our axe collection
  • Maritime archaeology

  • Will it Knap?
  • Stone Age plastics
  • Human Origins and a chance to meet our distant ancestors!

  • Discoveries and finds from Old Sarum (Wiltshire)
  • Peculiar Particles
  • Reconstruct a face
  • Learn Roman writing
  • Roman pottery stamps and how to use them
  • Excavation recording
  • Build-a-burial
  • Geophysics
