“Changing Assemblages of Vibrant Matter: foregrounding change in prehistory” Seminar

The study of change arguably lies at the core of archaeology. Studying change is one of the most important things that archaeology has to offer the humanities - our work explores changes in materials, communities, identities, environments and ideas over the very long term. Yet, all too rarely do we explicitly theorise the study of change. In this paper I draw on assemblage theory and new materialism to explore change in prehistory. I will argue that change is constant and on-going in our assemblages at different speeds, rhythms and scales.
