The Emergence of European communities project is supported by the Improving the Human Research Potential Programme of the European Commission. 

Coordinated by Professor Kristian Kristiansen of Göteborg University, Sweden, The Emergence of European Communities project is a comparative exploration of the formation of Bronze Age communities in Europe represented by case studies in three major regions, the Mediterranean (Monte Polizzo, Sicily), Central Europe (Százhalombatta, Hungary), and Northern Europe (Tanum, Sweden). The University of Southampton is one of six European institutions participating in the project, the others being Göteborg University, Sweden, University of Cambridge, UK Consejo Superior de Investigaciones Científicas, Spain, University of Oslo, Norway, Matrica Muzeum, Hungary.
