Research project: Photography/archaeology: Modernity & its representational devices

Currently Active:

This project investigates the links between the photographic and the archaeological, as two key devices of modernity.

Representational photography

Work so far has concentrated on the impact of commercial photography in the perception of antiquity, and its interaction with archaeological processes such as the institutionalisation of archaeological activity, and the extensive production of a national archaeological record.
