Professor Herbert Stansfield

Professor Herbert Stansfield (1872-1960), was educated at Ackworth School, Bradford Technical College, and the Royal College of Science, London. He was demonstrator in Physical Laboratory, Royal College of Science; Evening Lecturer in Physics and Electrical Engineering, Chelsea Polytechnic; Head of Physics and Electrical Engineering Department, Municipal Technical School, Blackburn, 1898-1904; Honorary Research Fellow and later Lecturer in Physics, Victoria University of Manchester, 1904-12; Professor of Physics and Electrical Engineering, University College, Southampton, 1912-32.

Ronald G.Stansfield was the only child of Professor Herbert Stansfield and Edith Grubb.

Working papers, printed pamphlets and offprints, and correspondence of Professor Stansfield, c.1905-50.

Superannuation papers, 1913-31; report and papers about gun experiments at Shoebury, 1927; photographs; soap film photographs; newspaper cuttings and a table plan for the Faraday celebration, 1931.
