Harry Solomon

Harry Solomon (Chaim Salomonowitz) (1869-c.1950) was a member of a family of Jewish merchants from Liepaja (Libau), Latvia.  The Salomonowitz family business included paper manufacture and, as Prager und Salomonwitz, from 1907, an import business, bring herring from England and Scotland; along with a trade in other manufactured goods, including leather.  Harry Solomon came to England as part of his work and remained in London for considerable periods of time from 1910 onwards, where he was later joined by his family, as refugees from Russian persecution.  He worked as an accountant in London in the 1930s.

Correspondence, in German and Russian, of Harry Solomon (Chaim Salomonowitz), 1897-1950, with family members in Liepaja, and Riga and Vilnius, including a long series of letters from his wife, Jenka/Jenny, 1910-15; correspondence with and about other members of the family as refugees from Russia, including letters from Novi Sad (Serbia), 1921.
