MS 356 The Bridge of Britain Programme papers

The Bridge in Britain Programme

The Bridge in Britain Programme was launched by Greville, Lord Janner, Colonel Robert Henriques and Mr Alf Diamond at the end of 1959. A non-denominational, educational charity it aimed “to foster understanding between Britain and Israel, Jew and non-Jew, through practical educational and mainly social service exchange schemes”.

The programme allowed applicants aged 18-30 years, such as school leavers, graduates, young trainees and professionals, to spend a period in Israel each year. At its height, in the mid-sixties, there were reciprocal visits to the UK by Israeli youngsters. By the late sixties the Bridge had virtually ceased.
