About us

The AUA: Inspiring professional higher education

As an organisation, we exist for our members. We offer support to help you enhance careers, boost your job prospects and create valuable networking opportunities. In short, we empower our members to take control of their career development.

As a charity, the AUA's object is to advance and assist in the advancement of education by fostering sound methods of leadership, management and administration in further and higher education by education,training, and other means.

Our members are drawn from all areas of the University's Professional Services. Anyone interested in developing their career in professional university administration, at whatever stage they have currently reached in their career, is welcome to join. We believe AUA offers an excellent opportunity for both those new to the higher education sector, and others who are more familiar with its context and values.

University of Southampton AUA branch members are involved in regional and national activities. Several sit or have sat in the past on national AUA committees, for example as AUA Trustee.

This website provides information about the AUA, locally and nationally. Members receive regular direct mailings from the AUA central office based at the University of Manchester as well as being included on the network email list for local events and information.

Over 50 years of outstanding achievement
It all began back in 1961. Today, more than 50 years on we have proudly celebrated our Golden Jubilee, with more than 4,500 members both in the UK and around the world.

AUA is the professional association for higher education administration and management staff – we know how important your job is and understand how much it means to you. Our aim is clear: to promote excellence in higher education management and to be a champion for our sector. 

All AUA members are committed to the continuous development of their own and others' knowledge, skills and practices. We actively champion equality of educational and professional opportunity and the advancement of higher education through professional knowledge, skills and practices. We demonstrate the highest standards of fair, ethical and transparent professional behaviour.
