The University of Southampton
British Association of Lung Research Meeting 2012

Venue

The University of Southampton was founded in 1862, and was originally named the Hartley Institution.  We have been based at the Highfield campus since 1919.

Southampton is a historic city located in the county of Hampshire on the south coast of England (http://www.visit-southampton.co.uk). From here the Pilgrim Fathers set sail for America in 1620, and the Titanic on her fateful voyage in 1912. Today the city is a major port and the cruise capital of northern Europe. Nearby is the New Forest National Park, with 566 km2 of woodland and heath with outstanding wildlife, and the cathedral cities of Winchester and Salisbury.

Just 75 miles (120 km) from central London, there are excellent transport links, by air, rail and road. London Heathrow and Gatwick airports are readily accessible, and Southampton International Airport is on the outskirts.
