The University of Southampton
Biological Sciences

Case studies

Biological Sciences has embraced the University’s enterprise agenda, seeking to realise the commercial potential of our research successes.

Three of the 12 spin-out companies established by the University since 2000 resulted from Biological Science's research and development work, and had their first homes either on campus or in one of the incubator units at the University's Science Park.

They have since become established businesses, contributing to the reduction of pesticide use in the food industry and supporting the development of new drug treatments.

Activotec: using chemistry technologies for new drug treatments.

Capsant: new techniques for drug testing and development.

Exosect: reducing the use of insecticides in food production.
