BioSoc helps students make the most of their time at Southampton
With the start of the new academic year, the student society BioSoc has embarked on its new programme of social, sport and educational activities for students of all the biological sciences.
Freshers have been welcomed to the University with events to help them get to know each other, make friends and settle into higher education. New this year is a ‘family' approach where students from different years can integrate and learn from each other. "It's an informal way for students to get hints and tips from others," explains BioSoc President Jake Bailey. "Sometimes you have questions about life at University and an older student is the best person to ask."
BioSoc's 12-strong committee organises teams in the University's intramural league including football, rugby and netball, social events are arranged and the education reps put on career and placement seminars with colleagues in Career Destinations as well as the annual biological sciences-themed careers day with invited guests from employers ranging from pharmaceutical companies to ecological consultancies.
