Three Minute Thesis (3MT®) winner
This year’s Three Minute Thesis (3MT®) University Grand Final has been won by Rachel Owen, doctoral researcher from the Faculty of Natural and Environmental Sciences.
This annual competition, developed by the University of Queensland and now an international initiative, involves doctoral researchers explaining their research project to a non-specialist audience in just three minutes, and with only one static slide.
Commenting on her win, Rachel Owen said:
“Being a part of the University 3MT Grand Final was an incredible experience, and one that I will surely never forget! It was a unique opportunity to experience the incredible breadth of exciting research being undertaken by our postgraduate researchers, in a way that was accessible for everyone. All of the finalists gave fantastic talks, and it is truly an honour to win such a hard fought competition. I hope to do the University and my faculty proud in the national round of 3MT.”
The runner up prize went to Alan Sanderson from the Faculty of Engineering and the Environment, with Stephen Lim from the Faculty of Medicine taking the People’s Choice award in a very close vote.
The prize money from 3MT will be used by this year’s winners to support their research.
