Event details

Prof. Dr. Jonathan Ready - Eight years of work on the aquatic fauna of the lower Amazon: patterns and processes identified by integrated methods

Speaker information

Prof. Dr. Jonathan Ready,Instituto de Ciências Biológicas, UFPA, Brasil, trained in integrated eco-evolutionary analyses of fishes, focussing on South American Cichlidae (B.Sc. University of Southampton, Ph.D. University of Hull), and then working with FishBase.se mapping species distributions (AquaMaps/INCOFISH – p://www.incofish.org/Workpackages/WP3/WP3.php), before starting to work at the Federal University of Pará, Brazil in 2008. He will present a summary of his research in the region, looking at diversity patterns and processes for Aquatic fauna from many of the tributaries of the Lower Amazon River often using molecular techniques to standardize species identification and provide non-invasive biological sampling methods to improve biodiversity knowledge gain in the light of increasing environmental threats.
